The Temporality of Being - Closing Night

Join us for a special closing event for The Temporality of Being, hosted at PIER+GALLERY, an evening of reflection, conversation, and celestial alignment.

The event begins at 7:00 PM, with time to explore the exhibition one last time before the panel discussion at 7:30 PM. Photographer and director Andy Hatton will be joined by Paddy Dorney for a conversation about the making of The Temporality of Being, the significance of the Dorney House in his creative process, and the personal and architectural histories embedded within the site. Together, they will discuss the past, present, and future of this iconic home, Paddy’s experience growing up in his father J.H. Esmond Dorney’s design, and the evolving dialogue between art, architecture, and place.

Following the discussion, at 8:49 PM, we will gather on the pier’s deck for a chance to witness the full moonrise, a fitting and poetic conclusion to an exhibition deeply tied to cycles of light, reflection, and transience.

Moonrise on the River

Join us for a very special evening beginning with an artist talk with photographer Andy Hatton at PIER+GALLERY in Brooke Street Pier. The artist will talk about his exhibition on display, The Temporality of Being, his time at the Dorney House, the work he’s created and an insight into what is coming. Special guest Paddy Dorney, will discuss the history of the site of his family home bringing together themes of past, present and future.

We will then embark on a two hour cruise around the River Derwent, crossing over to the Eastern Shore, where another of Esmond Dorney’s designs will be visible in Jarvis House, continuing along the river, until we cross back towards Sandy Bay, slowly taking in views of the Dorney House from the water, from here we will travel on to Taroona to view another of Esmond’s designs, Tate House. Then we will begin our return to Brooke Street Pier with a chance to witness the full moon rise over the river*.

Each ticket includes a welcome drink on arrival provided by one of our kind sponsors, NON, offering a non-alcoholic wine alternative drink to begin your evening. Further drinks will be available for purchase in the gallery and on board the boat.

In addition to this, each guest will receive a 16cm x 12cm print, only available with this event.
